Marie, what on earth makes a girl choose a job as a blasting engineer?<\/h2>\n

– I probably grew into it. The interest in construction and civil engineering has always been there, and since this is a family business, it was natural to explore different areas. Blasting was what I liked the most. I find it exciting to stand out a bit, and blasting is definitely the most thrilling aspect of it, she laughs.<\/p>\n

Describe what your job entails<\/h2>\n

– First of all, we need to remove loose materials to reach solid rock. Based on the conditions, I create a drilling plan\/blast plan. We drill the necessary holes according to a specific pattern, and then I gather dynamite (Marie simply calls it “mit”) and detonators, and load all the holes. Then I assess the conditions, whether roads need to be closed, people need to be moved away, and so on. Finally, we place mats or nets if necessary, before I set off the blast. It’s always exciting when we detonate, but as long as everything is done correctly, there’s nothing to be afraid of. And of course, the biggest charges are the best, says Marie with a smile.<\/p>\n
