Bindal is the southernmost municipality in Nordland, bordering Trøndelag. With its varied landscape of fjords, forests, mountains, and islands, it offers ideal conditions for outdoor recreation and a high quality of life¹. The municipality is home to around 1,400 residents, with the administrative centre located in Terråk¹.
Nature plays a key role in daily life, offering countless opportunities for activities and experiences. Locals and visitors enjoy hiking trails, hunting and fishing areas, as well as outdoor programmes offered by Trollfjell Friluftsråd, including popular initiatives like “Telltur” and “Sommertrim”².
Terråk features a sports hall, swimming pool, gym, and cultural school—all located in the same building as Terråk School³. This provides a wide range of activities for children, youth, and adults, and serves as an important community hub.
Bindal offers a safe and close-knit environment for families. Terråk School serves as the municipality’s primary and lower secondary school, while Bindal Kindergarten operates across three locations: Terråk, Bindalseidet, and Horsfjord³ ⁴.
The municipality has strong traditions in forestry and agriculture, with many farms raising cattle and sheep¹. Bindal is especially known for boatbuilding, and the traditional bindalsfæring—a hallmark of Norwegian coastal culture—is still crafted here today¹. Along the coast, aquaculture has become an increasingly important industry, contributing alongside farming to local employment and value creation¹.
