Lødingen municipality – a good place to live and work Lødingen municipality is a municipality in Nordland that is located southeast on Hinnøya, Norway’s largest island. The municipality has about 2000 inhabitants and an area of 516 km2 . Lødingen is the geographical center of Hålogaland, the most populous area of Northern Norway, and is the gateway to Lofoten, Vesterålen and the Harstad region. Lødingen has a varied and exciting landscape with mountains, fjords, islands and skerries. The municipality also has a rich cultural life, an active sports environment and several festivals and events throughout the year. 

Lødingen has many attractions and activities for both residents and visitors. Some of them are: 

  • Lødingen bygdetun, an open-air museum with old buildings, objects and stories from Lødingen’s past. 
  • Lofast, the world’s longest underwater tunnel that connects Lofoten with the mainland via Lødingen. 
  • Lødingen lighthouse, a beautiful lighthouse that is located on a small island in Øksfjorden. 
  • Lødingen church, a neo-Gothic church from 1897 that has a great organ and a painting of Jesus by Edvard Munch. 
  • Lødingen ski center, a modern ski resort with three lifts, five slopes and a terrain park. 
  • Lødingen harbor, one of the largest fishing ports in Northern Norway with many boats, quays and service facilities. 

Lødingen also has a well-developed infrastructure with road, bus, ferry and speedboat connections to other places in the region. The municipality has two schools, Lødingen primary school and Lødingen secondary school, and four kindergartens, Lødingen kindergarten, Vestbygda kindergarten, Offersøy kindergarten and Sørskot kindergarten. Lødingen also has a varied business sector with both public and private sector. Some of the largest private companies in the municipality are: 

  • Lofoten Viking AS, a producer of stockfish, salted cod and salted fish that exports to over 30 countries. 
  • Nordlaks Oppdrett AS, one of Norway’s largest breeders of salmon and trout that has several facilities in Lødingen’s fjords. 
  • Lofoten Seaweed Company AS, a producer of seaweed products that uses sustainable methods for harvesting and processing. 

Lødingen municipality is therefore a good place to live and work for anyone who wants to experience the nature, culture and business sector in Northern Norway. The municipality has many opportunities for development, cooperation and well-being.
