Bardu municipality is located in Troms and Finnmark county and has a population of approximately 4,000 people. The municipality covers an area of 2,514 square kilometers and borders Målselv municipality in the south, and Swedish municipalities in the east.
Bardu has a varied landscape, with both high mountains and deep valleys, lakes, rivers and marshes. Among the most famous mountains are Dividalshøgda (1,294 masl) and Istind (1,462 masl), which attract mountain climbers and hikers from all over the world. Bardu also has many beautiful forest areas, and is known for having some of the largest moose populations in the country.
The municipality has a long history, with traces of settlement going all the way back to the Stone Age. Today, Bardu is known for its war history from the Second World War, when it was an important strategic position for the German occupying power. This has led to a great interest in war history and many people visit the various memorials and museums in the area.
Bardu municipality has an active cultural life and many events during the year. There are also many opportunities for outdoor activities, with great hiking trails and ski slopes in winter. Bardu is also known for its good fishing, especially trout and salmon fishing in the Målselva and Barduelva rivers.
In addition, Bardu has a significant military presence with several camps and training areas. Bardu also has a varied business life, including agriculture, forestry, tourism and high-tech industry.
