Live in Båtsfjord

Båtsfjord municipality is an exciting and diverse municipality in East Finnmark, on the north side of the Varanger Peninsula. The municipality has about 2100 inhabitants, of which almost 400 have an immigrant background, mainly from Lithuania . The municipality is one of Norway’s largest fishing municipalities, with an active and varied business sector that includes fishing, fish processing, aquaculture, transport, trade and service . The municipality also has a rich cultural life, with among other things Båtsfjord cultural school, Båtsfjord library, Båtsfjord museum and Båtsfjord cinema . Every year there are several festivals and events in the municipality, such as Båtsfjord Festival, Barents Bird Festival, Båtsfjord Days and Båtsfjord Conference . 

Båtsfjord municipality has an area of 1416 km², and consists of the eastern part of the Varanger Peninsula and several islands in the Barents Sea . The municipality has a varied landscape, with mountains, valleys, plateaus, forests and coast. The municipality also has several nature reserves and protected areas, such as Syltefjordstauran bird sanctuary, Hamningberg landscape protection area and Komagvær nature reserve. The municipality has an arctic climate, with cold winters and mild summers. The midnight sun can be seen from the end of May to the end of July, while the polar night lasts from the end of November to the end of January. 

Båtsfjord municipality has good infrastructure, with among other things Båtsfjord airport, which has daily flight connections to Kirkenes and Tromsø. The municipality also has a modern port, which is an important hub for the fishing industry and sea transport in the region. The municipality also has good road connections to neighboring municipalities Vardø, Vadsø and Berlevåg. The municipality has four schools: Båtsfjord school (1st-10th grade), Syltefjord education center (kindergarten and 1st-7th grade), Båtsfjord high school and Varanger folk high school . The municipality also has four kindergartens: Båtsfjord kindergarten, Syltefjord kindergarten, Hamningberg kindergarten and Sandfjord kindergarten .
