Live in Berlevåg

Berlevåg is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, on the northwestern part of the Varanger Peninsula. The municipality has about 1100 inhabitants , most of whom live in the fishing port of Berlevåg and some in the fishing village of Kongsfjord. The municipality borders Tana in the south and Båtsfjord in the east, and has an area of 1153 km². 

Berlevåg is an active fishing municipality with rich natural resources in the Barents Sea. The municipality has a modern fishing port with several fish processing plants and a large fishing fleet. Other industries in the municipality include trade, service, transport, tourism and public sector. Berlevåg also has a varied cultural life with a museum, a library, a cultural center, a band and a male choir. 

Berlevåg has many attractions for tourists who want to experience the Arctic landscape and climate. Some of them are: 

• Berlevåg harbor museum, which shows the history of the harbor and the fishing industry in Berlevåg. 
• Tanahorn, a mountain that is an old sacrificial site for the Sami and a great viewpoint over the sea. 
• Berlevåg church, a wooden church from 1951 that replaced the old church that was destroyed during World War II. 
• Veines pier, a stone pier that was built by the Germans during the war to protect the harbor from waves and ice. 
• Berlevåg airport, which is one of the northernmost airports in Norway and has daily flights to Kirkenes and Tromsø. 

Berlevåg also has several festivals and events that attract visitors from home and abroad. Some of them are: 

• Barents Spektakel, an international art and culture festival that is held every year in February in collaboration with Kirkenes. 
• Harbor Days, a local festival that celebrates the sea and the fishing industry with concerts, exhibitions, activities and food in June. 
• Berlevåg Blues Festival, a music festival that is held every year in August with local and national artists. 
• Berlevåg Male Choir Festival, a festival that is held every third year in September with concerts by the famous male choir from Berlevåg and other choirs from Norway and abroad. 

Berlevåg is a municipality that offers good opportunities to live and work in an Arctic environment. The municipality has two schools, two kindergartens, a nursing home, a doctor’s office, a dentist’s office, a fire station and a police station. The municipality also has a good cooperation with neighboring municipalities Tana and Båtsfjord through Varanger Regional Council.
