Bindal is a municipality in Nordland county, located in the south of Helgeland. The municipality surrounds Bindalsfjorden and the outer part of Tosenfjorden, and has a varied nature with mountains, forests, islands and bays. Bindal is the southernmost municipality in Nordland, and borders Trøndelag in the south. The municipality has an area of 1 241 km², and had 1 406 inhabitants as of January 1, 2022.
Bindal has a rich history and culture, and is known for its Nordland boats and its polar explorer Otto Sverdrup. The municipality has an active cultural life with, among other things, Bindal museum, Bindal theater group, Bindal music corps and several choirs and associations. Every year, several festivals and events are organized in Bindal, such as Nordlandsbåtregattaen, Bindalsfestivalen, Bindalsmartnan and Terråkdagene.
