Flakstad is located in the heart of Lofoten and includes parts of the islands Flakstadøya and Moskenesøya. The local economy in Flakstad is closely tied to fisheries and the fish processing industry, with aquaculture and agriculture as important supplements¹. The municipality is among those in Nordland with the highest share of employment in primary industries.
The Fredvang Bridges and Kåkern Bridge connect the islands, making it easy to travel within the municipality⁵. Flakstad has one primary and lower secondary school and two kindergartens, offering safe and supportive conditions for children and youth⁶ ⁷.
