Gamvik municipality is Europe’s northernmost mainland municipality, located on the east side of the Nordkyn Peninsula in Troms and Finnmark county (1, 2). The municipality has a rich history, nature and culture, and offers many exciting experiences for both residents and visitors. 

Gamvik municipality has 1,057 inhabitants (2022) distributed among the villages of Mehamn, Skjånes, Langfjordnes, Nervei and Gamvik (1). Mehamn is the administrative center of the municipality, and has 692 inhabitants (2022). Gamvik is the second largest village with 228 inhabitants (2022) (1, 2). 

The municipality has an area of 1,416.34 km², of which 61.47 km² is water (1). The municipality borders Lebesby in the west and Tana in the south, and has a coastline along Tanafjord in the east (1). 

Gamvik municipality has a varied business sector, with fishing, fish processing, aquaculture, tourism, trade and public sector as the most important industries. The municipality also has an active voluntary and cultural life, with among other things a volunteer center, library, museum, sports club and band. The municipality organizes several festivals and events throughout the year, such as Nordkyn Festival, Mehamn Rock and Gamvik Days (3). 

Gamvik municipality has many attractive tourist destinations, such as Slettnes Lighthouse, Kinnarodden, Nordkyn Peninsula National Park and Mehamn Harbor. The municipality also offers accommodation and guided tours on both sea and land through various experience companies such as Slettnes Lighthouse and Nordkyn Nordic Safari AS (4). 

Gamvik municipality has two schools: Mehamn School (grades 1-10) and Gamvik School (grades 1-7). The municipality also has two kindergartens: Mehamn Kindergarten and Gamvik Kindergarten (5).
