Hattfjelldal is a municipality on Helgeland in Nordland, bordering Trøndelag and Sweden. The municipality has a varied landscape with mountains, forests, lakes and plains, and is part of the administrative area for Southern Sami language and culture. Hattfjelldal has about 1300 inhabitants , and is one of the least densely populated municipalities in the country. 

Hattfjelldal has a lot to offer for both residents and visitors. The municipality has a rich cultural life with several festivals and events throughout the year, such as Hattfjelldalsdagene, Hattfjelldalsmessa, Hattfjelldalsløpet and Hattfjelldalsvinteren. The municipality also has a Southern Sami knowledge center, Sijti Jarnge, which conveys Sami history, language and tradition. In addition, there are several associations and clubs that engage in various activities within sports, music, outdoor life and more. 

Hattfjelldal is also an attractive destination for nature lovers. The municipality has part of Børgefjell National Park within its borders, which is a wilderness area with magnificent nature and rich wildlife. Here you can experience everything from fishing, hunting, paddling, cycling and hiking to summit tours, skiing and dog sledding. The municipality also has Norway’s second largest lake, Røssvatnet, which offers great swimming opportunities, boating and trout fishing. For those who want more comfortable accommodation options, there are several hotels, campsites and cabins in the municipality. 

Hattfjelldal has a varied economic structure with both public and private sector. Forestry and agriculture are the most important primary industries in the municipality, while industry and service provision are the largest employers in the secondary and tertiary industries. The largest industrial company in the municipality is Arbor AS, which produces chipboard from spruce and pine chips. The municipality also has several small businesses within crafts, trade, transport and tourism. 

Hattfjelldal has a central location in the region, with good road and air connections to both Norway and Sweden. The municipality is about 34 km from E6 at Trofors, where you also find the nearest railway station. Mosjøen Airport is about 75 km away, while Mo i Rana Airport is about 120 km away. In addition, there is a Swedish airport in Hemavan, about 60 km from Hattfjelldal. 

Hattfjelldal has a well-developed school and kindergarten offer for children and young people. The municipality has two kindergartens, one primary school and one secondary school. In addition, the municipality has the Sami School for Central Norway, which provides education in Southern Sami language for students from the whole region. The municipality also has a library, a cultural center, a health center and a nursing home.
