Ibestad municipality is an island municipality in South Troms that offers beautiful nature, rich cultural life and varied business life. The municipality consists of the islands of Rolla and Andørja, which are connected by an underwater tunnel. The municipality also has a mainland connection to Troms inland via a bridge over Mjøsundet. Ibestad has 1461 inhabitants and an area of 241 km2.
Ibestad has many interesting facts and attractions to offer. The islands have high mountains, deep valleys, lush forests and beautiful beaches. Andørja is known as Norway’s most mountainous island, with 20 peaks over 1000 meters. Here you will also find Norway’s highest mountain wall, Kollhellaren, which is 1000 meters high and 4000 meters wide. Rolla has a milder landscape, but also many nice hiking opportunities. Both islands have good fishing opportunities in the sea and lakes.

Every year there are several festivals and events in Ibestad, such as Ibestad days, Andørja rock festival, Ibestad cultural festival and Ibestad church festival. The municipality also has a rich musical life with several choirs, bands and bands.
Ibestad has a varied business life with both public and private sector. The municipality has, among other things, two schools, two kindergartens, a nursing home, a doctor’s office and a fire station. The private sector consists of, among other things, fish industry, aquaculture, agriculture, trade, service and tourism.
