Kåfjord municipality is located around Kåfjord, the eastern arm of Lyngenfjord, in Troms. The municipality borders Nordreisa, Storfjord, Lyngen and Finland. Kåfjord has an area of 836 square kilometers and 2308 inhabitants (as of 2020). The municipality has three statistical sub-areas: Manndalen, Kåfjorddalen and Olderdalen.
Kåfjord is a municipality with rich history, culture and nature. Here you can find traces of copper mines from the 1800s, Sami and Kven cultural heritage, and beautiful mountains and fjords. The municipality has several tourist destinations, such as Gorsa bridge, Birtavarre church, Manndalen rural museum and Nord-Troms museum. Kåfjord is also known for its festivals and events, such as Riddu Riđđu festivala, an international indigenous festival, Kåfjordpilken, an ice fishing competition, Spinnvill rokkefestival, a music and culture festival, and many more.
Kåfjord has a varied business sector, with both public and private sector. The municipality has among other things agriculture, fishing, tourism, trade, service and industry as important industries. The municipality also has good infrastructure, with road, bus and ferry connections to neighboring municipalities and Tromsø. Kåfjord also has an active cultural life, with sports clubs, bands, choirs, theater groups and other associations. The municipality has four schools and five kindergartens.
