Målselv is a large and diverse municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, with a border to Sweden in the east. The municipality has about 6800 inhabitants who live in several villages, such as Øverbygd, Rundhaug, Olsborg, Moen and Karlstad. Målselv has a rich cultural life, with among other things Målselvfossen as a national cultural heritage site, Målselv church as one of the oldest wooden churches in Northern Norway, and Målselvdagan as an annual festival with activities for the whole family. The municipality also has good opportunities for outdoor recreation, with among other things Njunis as the third highest mountain in the county, Målselva as one of the best salmon rivers in the country, and Rostadalen nature reserve as an important area for birdlife.
Målselv has a varied economic structure, with both public and private sector. The municipality hosts the Norwegian Army’s largest unit in Northern Norway, Hærens styrker på Bardufoss, which contributes to employment and competence development in the region. The municipality also has a strong agricultural industry, with over 200 farms that produce milk, meat, potatoes and grain. In addition, there are several small and large businesses within trade, service, industry, construction, transport and tourism.
Målselv has good infrastructure, with its own airport at Bardufoss that provides direct connection to Oslo and Tromsø, as well as good road connections to neighboring municipalities. The municipality also has a well-developed school and kindergarten offer, with 11 primary schools, 2 secondary schools and 14 kindergartens.
