Narvik is a city and municipality in Nordland county, located at the innermost part of Ofotfjorden. With about 22 000 inhabitants, it is the third largest city and municipality in the county, and a natural hub in the heart of Northern Norway. Narvik borders Tysfjorden in the south, Troms and Finnmark in the north and Sweden in the east, and has an area of 3 195 km².
Narvik has a strong industrial tradition, especially related to iron ore shipping from LKAB’s mines in Sweden. The city also has a diverse economy with sectors such as trade, service, tourism, health, education and research. Narvik is also known for having Norway’s national mountain, Stetind, in its municipality.
Narvik has a rich cultural life with facilities such as library, cultural school, cinema, theater, festivals and events. Some of the most famous are Vinterfestuka, an annual cultural festival that celebrates the city’s history and identity, and Nordland Musikkfestuke, a music festival that is held every other year in Narvik and other places in the county.

Some of the most popular are Narvikfjellet, a ski resort with spectacular views over the fjord and the city, Narvik War Museum, a modern museum that conveys the history of World War II in Northern Norway, Polar Park, the world’s northernmost wildlife park with wolves, bears, lynx, moose and reindeer, and Ofotbanen, a railway that runs from Narvik to Kiruna in Sweden, and that is known for its beautiful nature and historical significance.
