Saltdal municipality is a beautiful and diverse municipality in Nordland county, which stretches from the fjord to the mountain. The municipality has about 4700 inhabitants, and an area of 2213 km2. Saltdal is known for its rich cultural life, its diverse nature and its exciting tourist destinations.
Saltdal has an active cultural life, with among other things Saltdalshistoria, a historical play that is performed every year. The municipality also has a Nordland National Park Center, which provides information about the county’s national parks. Saltdal has several festivals and events, such as Saltdalsdagene, Rognan Blues Festival and Junkerdalsura Rock Festival.
Saltdal has many attractive tourist destinations, such as Saltdal Tourist Center, which is located in the green valley on Storjord, with Junkerdalsura nature reserve as the nearest neighbor. Saltdal also has Saltstraumen, the world’s strongest tidal current, which attracts fishermen from all over the world. Saltdal is also a good starting point for experiencing Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park, which has Norway’s second largest glacier.

The municipality has among other things Salten Aqua, one of Norway’s largest aquaculture companies, and Saltdalshytta, Norway’s largest cabin producer. Saltdal also has a well-developed infrastructure, with both road, railway and airport.
Saltdal has a good upbringing environment, with several schools and kindergartens. The municipality has three primary schools: Rognan school, Øvre Saltdal school and Junkerdal upbringing center. The municipality also has a secondary school: Saltdal secondary school. Saltdal has six kindergartens: Rognan kindergarten, Storjord kindergarten, Lønsdal kindergarten, Øvre Saltdal kindergarten, Junkerdal kindergarten and Røkland kindergarten.
