Træna municipality is a pearl on the Helgeland coast, right on the edge of the Norwegian Sea. With its nearly 500 inhabitants spread over four inhabited islands, Træna is a lively and unique community with rich history, culture and nature. Here you can experience everything from spectacular rock formations, such as Kirkehelleren and Trænstaven, to cozy fishing villages, such as Husøy and Selvær. Træna municipality has an area of 15.2 km² and consists of a total of 477 islands, islets and skerries. The largest island is Sanna, which has an area of 6.8 km². The municipality’s highest point is Trænstaven at 338 meters above sea level. Træna has a maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers. The average temperature in January is 1.5 °C and in July is 12 °C.
Træna municipality has a varied economic structure, with fishing, aquaculture, trade, service and tourism as the main industries. The municipality also has an active cultural sector, with among other things a cultural center, a museum, a library and a cultural school. Træna has two kindergartens and a primary school. There are also good opportunities for outdoor recreation, sports and leisure activities on the islands.
