Vega is an island municipality in Helgeland in Nordland, consisting of more than 6500 islands, islets and skerries . The municipality has about 1220 inhabitants , and a total area of 165 km². The municipal center is located at Gladstad, which has just over 300 inhabitants. Vega is known for its world heritage status, which it received in 2004 because of its unique culture and nature related to eider farming .
Vega has a lot to offer for both residents and visitors. The municipality has a rich cultural life, with among other things Vega coastal association, Vega music association, Vega theater group and Vega art and culture house. Vega has a varied business sector, with both public and private sector. The municipality has among other things two kindergartens, two primary schools, one secondary school and one high school. There are also several shops, cafes, restaurants and accommodation options. The main industries in Vega are fishing, aquaculture, agriculture, tourism and service provision .
