The weather in Northern Norway is full of contrasts, to say the least. In winter, we have two months where the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon, but in return, we are treated to a sky painted in beautiful shades of pink and orange. Winter, it is anything but black.
“When the broom tips on the doorstep, there’s a storm in Alta.”
The most famous phenomenon in winter is the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights occur when energetic particles from the sun collide with the Earth’s magnetic field. Blue, green, purple. Magical. It must be experienced, plain and simple.
“On the outer coast, we have to take down the flagpole in autumn, and there it must remain until spring arrives.”
When summer comes, winter is forgotten, as we are accompanied by the Midnight Sun. It can shine around the clock, and we enjoy long, bright, and delightful summer evenings.
Northern Norway is known for its rugged and unpredictable weather, but that’s precisely what makes this region so fascinating. Nature’s changing moods must be experienced for you to truly understand how raw it is.
