Fauske is a municipality in Salten, Nordland, bordering Sørfold, Sweden, Saltdal, Beiarn, and Bodø¹. The municipality has about 9,800 inhabitants (2025)¹, and its administrative center, the town of Fauske, lies at the innermost part of Fauskevika, a branch of the Skjerstad Fjord¹. Fauske was granted town status in 1998¹.
The landscape combines dramatic fjords, fertile valleys, and mountains, and the municipality has a rich history in marble and mining, agriculture, and trade¹. Today, Fauske offers a wide range of experiences for both residents and visitors. For those seeking activities, there are opportunities for alpine skiing, dog sledding, disc golf, kayaking, cycling, and packrafting⁸. The municipality also has a strong commercial offering, including Fauske Handelsstand, Amfi Fauske, and Fauske Handelspark⁹ ¹⁰ ¹¹.
With its location, Fauske serves as a natural hub in the region. Fauske Station is part of the Nordland Line, with train connections to Bodø and bus routes onward to Narvik, Harstad, Sortland, and Tromsø¹². The local economy is diverse, with public services, trade, industry, construction, and civil engineering as key employers, while tourism is growing alongside increasing interest in the area’s nature and culture¹.
